A horse is a large responsibility, but can also be a rewarding experience. If you are just starting with your first horse, there are many things to consider when it comes to the care of a large animal. Here are some of the aspects of horse care that you need to prepare for before you bring home your horse.

Shelter
The first aspect of horse care is where you will keep the horse. Not only do they need an indoor space to stay when it is inclimate weather outside, but they also need outdoor space in order to get exercise and fresh air. Even just one horse will need at least a 12 square-foot stall and two acres outside to roam. If the outdoor space has sparse grass, you may need more than two acres to accommodate their needs.

Training
Every horse needs a bit of training so that it can do what you need it to do, whether that is specific training for competitions or racing, or whether it is general training so that the horse is comfortable around people and other animals that may also live on your land. Hiring a trainer is the best way to go so that there is someone their that can help you learn how to properly command a horse that has been trained.

Medical Care
One of the biggest expenses a horse owner will have is the medical care of the animal. Annual checkups are a necessity, as are other visits from the vet any time there is a health issue. To cover all your bases, you will want to research horse medical insurance to find a policy that best meets the needs of your horse and your budget so you can enjoy raising and caring for one of these majestic animals.
