Dream hotels aren’t necessarily five star hotels with swimming pools and spas and all the amenities that the law allows. There are a lot of things that make a hotel a great place to be at, starting with the staff, but also the location, the people you’re with, the environment around the hotel and your own state of mind. I think the best hotels I’ve been in were cheap hotels, just because I ended up having more fun in them.
I think people get spoiled going to expensive hotels, because they end up not only not having to leave the hotel to do anything, but also not wanting to leave because you want to make the best use of the money you invested in it. That’s why my standards for a good hotel are simply a nice, quiet room and possibly breakfast included. All the rest of my holidays are spent outside of it anyway, enjoying myself, swimming on the beach or getting to know the city or the country.
But I also see the appeal of going to a secluded hotel resort and just be catered to. Possibly in my next family vacation I’ll look for something like that and try to relax a bit more.
